Movies Portraying Nuclear War

I have previously posted about some of the made-for-television dramas released in the 1980s that portrayed a hypothetical nuclear war or act of nuclear terrorism. I have also posted about a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) set at the tail end of World War III, that included limited nuclear exchanges, between the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies and the United States and its NATO allies.

As someone that was alive during the Cold War, myself and others lived under the ever-present threat of a nuclear war. I certainly didn’t live in a constant state of terror of a nuclear attack back then. But even if you believed that it was unlikely, you also recognized that just such an unthinkable disaster was entirely possible.

Below is a link to a video detailing “The Most Haunting Nuclear War Movies Ever Made.” I have watched Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb or simply Dr. Strangelove in its entirety and much of the made-for-television movie,The Day After. I have seen a few clips from Threads. A couple of the movies on this list I have heard of before I watched this video, although I have yet to watch any part of them. And there are some movies on the list with which I was previously unfamiliar.

Given the grim content, I would have to be in a particular mood to watch these movies and yet they all looked interesting if not exactly “entertaining.” I expect that I may get around to watching at least a few of those that I haven’t seen or seen in their entirety.

You can click on the first link below to watch the relatively short video (9:29) about these nightmare fuel movies. And if you’re interested in checking out my previous posts mentioned above, I have posted the links below as well.
