Nuclear Apocalypse on the Small Screen
If you grew up in the 80s, you almost certainly remember the television dramas about a possible nuclear attack on the United States and/or the outbreak of World War III. It was horrifying, sobering viewing whether you were an adult or a teenager in junior high school. The Day After, a made-for-TV movie, particularly shocked American TV audiences. It forced Americans to think long and hard about what a nuclear war would actually mean for themselves, their loved ones, their nation, and the world.
Below are links to videos relating to these disturbing, frightening, and thought-provoking television dramas from my youth. A couple of these programs are available to watch in their entirety via the provided links. There is a trailer for another and a couple of videos discussing the impact that The Day After had on the United States, its people, and its leaders. I don’t know if telling you to “enjoy” the videos hits the correct note. We still live with the threat of nuclear annihilation. But these videos are definitely worth a look, particularly if are a history buff and want to have a better understanding of that time in our history.
