Listening to Lovecraftian Horror

I have posted a handful of times about H. P. Lovecraft and his work on this blog. Below, at the bottom of this post, are links to those previous posts if you are interested in reading or rereading them and checking out any of the links provided.

I have listened to audiobooks on a handful of occasions. While I generally prefer to read, audiobooks do represent a convenient way to enjoy an author’s work. Some audiobooks that I have enjoyed have a full cast of performers playing the roles of the various characters. Others were simply read by a narrator.

I found the H. P. Lovecraft Audiobook YouTube channel and I think that I will listen to at least some of Lovecraft’s works. I listened to part of A Shadow Over Innsmouth yesterday and I liked what I heard. The recording was evidently part of an audiobook recorded to cassette tape, as it references the need to continue the recording by listening to the other side of the tape. The narrator is very good, although I pronounce “Innsmouth” differently.

If you are interested in exploring H. P. Lovecraft’s work, you might enjoy this way of entering the world of Lovecraft. And the month in which we celebrate Halloween might be a great time to give Lovecraftian horror a try.
