Happy Independence Day, Patriots! In honor of the occasion, I am sharing an exchange between a military representative of King George III and some of his more unruly former subjects. Admittedly, I am not entirely certain that the reply from Patriot leaders is entirely accurate, although the sentiment is absolutely on the mark.
“If you do not desist in your opposition to the British, I shall march this army over the mountains, hang your leaders, and lay waste to your country with fire and sword.” — Major Patrick Ferguson, British Army
“Oh yeah? Well f^*k around and find out.” — Patriot leaders

Yes, I have previously shared Major Ferguson’s threatening proclamation in my “Don’t Underestimate the Overmountain Men” post (https://www.apirateontheprairie.com/post/don-t-underestimate-the-overmountain-men), but the subsequent defeat of Major Ferguson’s Loyalist command at the Battle of Kings Mountain was an important moment in the American Revolutionary War. It gave the Patriots a much-needed morale boost and the loss hurt the British efforts at pacifying the rebellious southern colonies while dampening Loyalist enthusiasm for joining the fight. USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇸 😁
