Yeah, You Can Keep Your Bro-country Music

I grew up listening to and enjoying a variety of musical genres. I came to appreciate the music that my parents enjoyed including 50s rock and roll and 70s country music. I came to absolutely love the hair metal music of my teenage years and my early 20s. I have long enjoyed classic rock and the pop music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I wasn’t a big fan of disco, although I have enjoyed some disco songs. Being exposed to blues music by a coworker in the late 1980s has resulted in me becoming a big fan of the genre and enjoying a number of live blues performances including those of B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Kenny Neal. And one of the highlights of my most recent visits to New Orleans was enjoying live jazz at the city’s Mahogany Jazz Hall. But I am just not a big fan of what has been referred to as bro-country.

There may be some songs in the country music sub-genre that I like or would like, but most of it just sounds the same to me and that isn’t a compliment. The There I Ruined It YouTube channel has posted a video that pretty much sums it up for me. To be fair, I am not a musician or even a particularly knowledgeable music fan. If you like bro-country, that’s great. It’s just not for me.
