“What do you believe in then?”

Well, I believe in the soul. The cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. [pause] Goodnight. — Kevin Costner as “Crash” Davis in Bull Durham

Besides, uh, I don't believe in quantum physics when it comes to matters of the heart. — Kevin Costner as “Crash” Davis in Bull Durham

🐂⚾️🥰

I am not a scotch aficionado. I tend to prefer bourbon and rum, although I will dabble in tequila and Canadian whisky (currently enjoying some Crown Royal Vanilla on the rocks). And I have never read anything by Susan Sontag. But I tend to agree with everything else “Crash” says. I also don’t believe physics can explain attraction, lust, or love. The heart wants what it wants. I make no apologies and I offer no explanations for listening to my heart, even if I subsequently struck out swinging.

For the record, a baseball teammate took to calling me “Crash” back in 1997. Lawrence Columbus “Crash“ Davis (inspiration for Costner’s character) earned that nickname after crashing into a teammate (something that cost me a tooth when I was a Little League outfielder), but I earned it in different circumstances off the diamond. 😏
