Unfinished Business
Updated: Jun 13, 2022
The last few years, I really haven’t devoted much time and attention to resolutions. That is somewhat unusual for me, as I typically compile a list at the end of the year or at the start of the year and I plug away at checking them off my list. Historically, I have done okay. I accomplish some. Some are modified. Some get added to the next year‘s list.
Yesterday, I compiled a list of things that I want to accomplish in 2022. I don’t necessarily consider the list final, as I am not opposed to adding to the list. But it is a decent start.
This year’s list of resolutions involves taking care of quite a bit of unfinished business. Previous resolutions that did not get accomplished. Courses that I started, but have yet to complete. Learning to play the ukulele. Finishing some books that I didn’t finish reading. Getting active in Amateur Radio and FINALLY using the privileges afforded me by passing the licensing exam more than a decade ago. 😳
I am taking on a few other resolutions. I plan to get more consistent in my own fitness training, get down to my “fighting weight”, and basically get closer to my previous level of physical fitness. I plan to focus on doing some creative writing. I plan to devote some time and energy towards meeting my spiritual needs and seeing to my emotional health and well-being.
I know that New Year’s resolutions don’t always get a lot of traction in people’s lives and people may be prone to abandon their resolutions after experiencing early failures. Don’t. Failure happens. Recommit yourself. Learn from your failures. Enlist the help of supportive people in your life. Ignore the critics. Have a new “New Year’s Day“ to start over again in the middle of the year. And if at year’s end you didn’t accomplish what you hoped to accomplish, don’t be afraid to embrace failure and start again.
Best of wishes for you and yours in 2022!
