Today’s Random Thought (28-APR-2026)

I was listening to music and a song triggered a memory of what might best be described as a missed opportunity. It happened when I was a much younger man while I was attending the local technical institute/community college and living with my parents.

Late one evening, I got a phone call from a young woman that I knew from school. She relayed to me that she had an “itch” that she needed scratching, that she was burning up, that her mom wasn’t at home, and that I should come over to visit. She was a firecracker and I committed to driving over to her house.

My father, who worked construction out of town, happened to be home between jobs and had fallen asleep on the couch watching television. I was almost through the sliding glass door when his eyes opened and he caught sight of me leaving. He proceeded to inquire as where I thought that I was going at that late hour. Now I can’t recall what answer I gave him, but it was evidently inadequate and he made it clear that I wasn’t going to be going anywhere until morning.

I admit that I gave some thought to defying my father and trying to sneak out a little later, assuming that he had fallen back to sleep or had went to bed. Frankly, I have to admit that I gave serious consideration to the idea of dropping from the second floor window to the ground below my bedroom to make my planned rendezvous. This young woman was a real hottie.

Sadly, I didn’t make it over to her place and we never hooked up. Perhaps it was for the best, but I can’t help but feel like I missed out on a great evening with her and perhaps more. Anyway, it is amusing now decades later. 😉
