Taking Care of Yourself Emotionally During the Holidays
My fellow pirates (and upstanding citizens), I sincerely hope that this post finds you well. Moreover, I hope that this post is not arriving a day or more too late for you to see the most timely benefit from it. I admittedly haven’t watched this video that I am sharing today in its entirety, but I didn’t want to delay in getting it out to someone that could really use this information right now.
I have previously shared links to a video and books written by psychologist Guy Winch on the topic of emotional first aid (https://www.apirateontheprairie.com/post/tending-to-those-emotional-wounds). I admit to listening to that video the first time and feeling as if it opened my eyes to something that I perhaps had, at best, only suspected on an almost unconscious level. I would recommend that video (click on link above) to anyone, as none of us (aside from perhaps sociopaths) are immune from emotional wounding.
I have long recognized that we have to be our own best friend and advocate, while not dismissing or minimizing the importance and positive impact of having supportive, loving relationships with family members and friends. I truly believe that it is important to be kind to ourselves and to be our own cheerleaders rather than our own harshest critics. Sometimes I am successful in remembering that when I have been slighted or rejected or have failed. Sometimes not so much. But I choose to be charitable to myself when I realize that I have forgotten.
Again, I hope that you and yours are well and enjoying the holiday season. Regardless, you might want to carve out some time today or in the next few days to watch this video. If you do, I certainly hope that you found it to be time well-spent.
