Some Adventures for the Dungeons & Dragons Soloist or Duo

I have previously posted about my somewhat plodding return to the tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) hobby and I have expressed my interest in participating in both solo gaming and traditional group play. And while I have mentioned Dungeons & Dragons or D&D in some of my posts, I am admittedly leaning towards returning to the hobby in earnest with a few different games before I perhaps once again play D&D.

But I recently discovered that there are a number of resources available to the solo roleplaying game player that are devoted specifically to D&D 5e. That is deemed the current edition of the game, although the rules saw an update in 2024 that evidently didn’t require the creation of a new edition (D&D 2024 or D&D 5.5e?).

I was looking for a gift for someone that plays D&D and I decided to look into what is available for solo D&D players. I was pleased to discover that there are a number of products available for the solo player including pre-made adventures that do not require a Dungeon Master or DM to play them and books providing guidance and tools specifically for the solo player. With some “tinkering,” it is possible to adapt a solo adventure so that a duo of players can take part in that adventure and still feel challenged. When more than one player is playing in a TTRPG without a DM, this is referred to as cooperative play.

Anyway, as it may not have occurred to the D&D enthusiast or the prospective D&D player that he or she can play D&D as a solo participant without a DM or that such pre-made adventures and resources are readily available, I decided that I would share my “”discovery.” Below is a link to an Obvious Mimic Press blog post on five recommended pre-made solo adventures for D&D 5e, a link to an article on the same blog regarding duo play, a link to the Obvious Mimic Press website where you can purchase their products, and a link to the DriveThruRPG/Dungeon Masters Guild website where you can purchase other D&D solo products, as well as pre-made adventures and products geared towards more traditional group play. If you are interested in playing D&D as a solo player or as part of a Duo without a DM presiding over the game, you should click on the links below and perhaps perform your own search for solo D&D pre-made adventures and books. And such items might make excellent gifts for a D&D enthusiast or a prospective player.
