Solo Miniatures Wargaming

I was watching YouTube videos and browsing the suggested videos that were being proposed to me by YouTube, when I came across an interesting, relatively short video on the topic of solo miniatures wargaming by the Giggan (@Giggan-h2r) YouTube channel. While I have posted about my interest and progress towards playing tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) as a solo participant, I haven’t mentioned my interest in solo board wargaming and solo miniatures wargaming. And I am interested in that aspect of the wargaming hobby for the same reasons that I am interested in playing TTRPGs as a solo player.
I have made slow, somewhat halting progress towards playing TTRPGs as a solo gamer and in time I hope to also get my feet wet in solo wargames. After all, I played a handful of board wargames when I was younger, although I had more difficulty in convincing someone to join me in playing regularly or even finishing a game. As with playing TTRPGs as a solo gamer, solo wargaming would allow me to play a game without the need to arrange for one or more players to join me in person or online and it would allow me to play whenever I have the time and opportunity to play and to play for a short time when I don’t have much time in which to play. One would probably hesitate to invite someone over or to meet somewhere to play just a few turns of a game before calling it a day or a night and moving on to other things. As a solo gamer, I could play just a turn or two if that was all the time that I had available to play on a given day or night.
The Giggan YouTube channel has a number of videos on the topic of solo miniatures wargaming, including videos on a number of different games. If you have any interest in miniatures wargaming, I would encourage you to watch this video that I mentioned (click on the first link below) and then check out the channel for more videos (click on the second link below). From there you can then branch out on YouTube as you see fit.
A number of hobbies are solitary pursuits. One shouldn’t feel stigmatized or odd if one enjoys solo wargaming. And there is nothing to stop you from also gaming with other players when possible. I certainly hope to play both wargames and TTRPGs as a solo player and as a gamer playing with other gamers.
