Or Perhaps They Are Indifferent to Your Pain

I can certainly accept that some people are totally aware of the pain that their choices, decisions, and/or actions have caused us. And I can certainly accept that some of those people might be so troubled or uncomfortable with the fact that they have hurt us, that they might choose to avoid us because it makes them even more troubled or uncomfortable to be around us. But I think that often people are somewhat blinded by their own desires or concerns and they don't fully realize just how badly they have hurt us. Or they are somewhat indifferent to our feelings and our pain because they have desires or concerns that far outweigh any concerns that they might have regarding our feelings and our emotional wellbeing.

And, of course, when someone hurts us by ending or redefining a relationship, they are letting us know in no uncertain terms that they are okay with not seeing us again or seeing us a lot less often than they used to see us. So it shouldn't be particularly surprising that such a relationship change would result in them disappearing from our lives.

While a person might know that he or she hurt you, it might be a stretch to suggest that it is guilt that is causing him or her to avoid you. The simplest conclusion might be that he or she simply doesn't care to see you and a sense of guilt isn't to blame.
