My 2025 New Year’s Resolutions

Last couple of years, I have not been terribly successful in accomplishing my New Year’s resolutions. Now I have never tended to accomplish all of them in a given year and I have always reserved the right to alter or dismiss any of them as I see fit during the year. But I have experienced some level of success in the past when it comes to achieving my resolutions. So I see some value in making resolutions in spite of the occasional failures and me giving some thought to chucking them going forward (https://www.apirateontheprairie.com/post/trip-around-the-sun-jimmy-buffett-and-martina-mcbride).

A number of this year’s resolutions are recycled resolutions that were not met last year or even over the last couple of years. However, I am not giving up on accomplishing most or all of them. As such, I am posting these as part of my plan to hold myself accountable. Putting it into the ether, as it were. The list is shorter and perhaps less ambitious than in previous years, but I would argue that it is more reasonable and therefore achievable. I am optimistic. Here they are:

New Year’s Resolutions (2025)

  1. Read the Bible.

  2. Complete 156 individual and/or group fitness training sessions.

  3. Perform fifty consecutive pushups by year’s end.

  4. Get body weight down to eighty-five kilograms (187.4 lbs) or below by year’s end.

  5. Complete my review of my Amateur Radio study materials and be an active participant in Amateur Radio by the end of March.

  6. Learn to play four songs on the ukulele and/or steel drum.

  7. Take part in at least two roleplaying game sessions as a PC and/or as a DM/GM/“Keeper”/referee. This can include solo games.

  8. Paint my BattleTech miniatures and play at least two BattleTech and/or BattleTech: Alpha Strike games.

  9. Go shooting a minimum of twelve times this year (dry fire sessions count if ammo availability is an issue).

  10. Read The NEW Comedy Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Writing and Performing Stand-Up Comedy by Judy Carter. Complete the assignments.

  11. Complete my two The Great Courses courses (American Revolution and Play Ball! The Rise of Baseball as America’s Pastime by July) and two other courses on The Great Courses Plus by the end of the year.

  12. Write a short story, novel, novella, and/or a screenplay.

  13. Practice and/or play baseball, corkball, and/or Wiffleball six times this year.

  14. Visit a museum, a zoo, and an aquarium.

  15. Complete at least one boating/sailing/seamanship course (including online courses).

Wish me luck!🍀 😃
