Journeying Solo

In my recent post, “I’m Playing a Game” (https://www.apirateontheprairie.com/post/i-m-playing-a-game), I acknowledged that merely interacting with and exploring tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) is an act of play. I collected that nugget of wisdom from a book written by YouTube content creator and solo roleplaying game enthusiast, Geek Gamers. Her YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@GeekGamers01) shares her experiences with solo roleplaying while seeking to guide members of her audience through the hobby. Her book, Solo Game Master’s Guide, has been praised as a distillation of her advice, her experiences, her insights, and her accrued knowledge for new and experienced solo roleplayers. I’m enjoying the book and I am feeling even more excited about the prospect of taking on the dual roles of both player and game master required of a solo roleplayer.

Other YouTube channels have also fueled my excitement about the prospect of playing TTRPGs as a solo player. The Man Alone has a YouTube channel devoted to the hobby. He has created a video on getting into the hobby and some resources that a prospective solo gamer may find helpful (he includes Solo Game Master’s Guide). Below is a link to this video, as well as a link to his YouTube channel where you can find additional videos. It’s a relatively long video (54:47), but that is hardly an unreasonable time investment when looking at a prospective hobby. In addition, I have included a link to voice actor Trevor Devall’s Me, Myself and Die! YouTube channel. He is mentioned, along with Geek Gamers, in the Man Alone video and I have found his videos to be both entertaining and informative. If you think that you might be interested in solo roleplaying, particularly if you’re already a TTRPG enthusiast, I recommend that you check out the video below and the YouTube channels. It might open new doors to adventure for you.

Today’s Random Thought (06-JAN-2026)

Let’s face it. Sometimes, when a relationship ends badly, it is because the other person wanted it to end badly. Some people pile the fuel high on the bridge before they deliberately apply the torch.
