It’s Halloween. If there was ever a time of year that we would be inclined to think of the acclaimed American writer, Edgar Allan Poe, it would be this time of year. After all, he is the “Master of the Macabre.” But there was far more to this American literary icon than just spooky stories. He was an editor, a literary critic, he is credited with helping to birth the modern detective story, and he wrote some of the earliest science fiction. And he lived an interesting, sometimes tragic life that ended under mysterious circumstances.

Chris Semtner, curator at Richmond, Virginia’s Poe Museum, joined the Our American Stories podcast to discuss the life and work of Poe. I have included below a link to the Our American Stories webpage for the episode and a link to the iHeart webpage where you can listen to the episode.

Have a happy and safe Halloween!
