I haven't been to Marseilles. Had I not been asthmatic, I could have seen myself retiring from the French Foreign Legion and settling there to drink red wine and practice savate. Yup, tasty French wine, baguettes, cheese, and big, sweeping kicks. 😉
In all seriousness, I totally get this song. It is one of my favorite songs by Jimmy Buffett. Time on the coast can be a balm for heartbreak, even for persistent heartaches. The city of Marseilles has a reputation for being a rough place, at least in some quarters. Probably why savate was so popular amongst the sailors and those that lived and plied their trade in this coastal city. But I hope that I one day can enjoy the wine, bread, cheese, and hospitality of this coastal community on the Mediterranean Sea, if only for a few days or an afternoon. Even if I never really get over her.🍷🥖🧀😎
