An Arduous, Perilous Journey That Ended in Deaths, Desperation, and the Eventual Rescue of Some

While not exactly a Halloween story, the historical account of the disastrous ordeal that befell the Donner Party is truly horrific. In a time when the lives and the achievements of many of our national heroes, historic figures, and ordinary Americans of previous generations are routinely and reflexively denigrated, dismissed, mocked, rejected, and vilified by today’s generations of supposedly “enlightened” Americans, it should be recognized and remembered that previous generations of Americans faced many struggles and hardships and did occasionally display remarkable courage, determination, and fortitude.

I think that you will find that it may cause you to think and to consider how you would fare if you found yourself in a similar position and to consider what you would be willing to do to survive. Would you have the courage to even undertake such a risky and uncertain journey? Those are some dark musings that should fit right in with Halloween right around the corner.
