Ahoy, Me Hearties!

Arrr! You have reached the first inaugural entry posted to A Pirate on the Prairie. Welcome aboard.

I have written a couple blogs in my life, both of which are now defunct or "deep-sixed." The first one was devoted to "Insights and Thoughts on Functional Fitness and Sports Performance Training." As such, I was posting blog entries and links to articles related to sports, sports performance training, fitness training, health, and occasionally some unrelated topics. The second blog had its origins in the fact that I was feeling the need to post more blog entries and links to articles that were not related to sports, sports performance training, fitness training, and health topics. It was also a way for me to deal with some of life's heartbreaks and to come to terms with them. The second blog was devoted to "Insights, Thoughts, and Opinions on Whatever Strikes My Fancy."

Life being unpredictable and tempestuous as the ocean at times, I found myself (quite unexpectedly I might add) moving to rural Northern Illinois. The opportunities to continue working in the fitness/sport performance field were practically nonexistent. The few positions available didn't offer a living wage and I couldn't see making the long daily commute to a larger metropolitan area to pursue such opportunities. As such, I left the field. I did start a fitness/sport performance business that I reluctantly had to "shutter' to pursue more meaningful (i.e., more financially rewarding) employment as a truck driver. As I was no longer pursuing a career in the fitness/sport performance field, I decided to shut down my first blog. I shut down my second blog when I decided that it had served its purpose and I reached the conclusion that my relatively few regular readers would not be hopelessly grief-stricken were I to stop posting new entries. 😉

So why a new blog? It is nothing in particular that I can put my finger on to be honest. I just felt like posting some stuff online. As such, this blog has the potential to be all over the place. It probably won't be too political, as I tend to get my fill of that on "social media," which ironically can be decidedly unsocial media. Of course, pirates could be antisocial. But they could also be quite sociable with other pirates and ne'er-do-wells. In any case, I don't expect to flog anyone with a cat o' nine tails, keelhaul anyone, maroon anyone, or make anyone walk the plank. So feel free to sign on of your own accord, matey. Hopefully I won't have to resort to shanghaiing some crew.
