A “Weekend” Getaway to the Badger State and its Lakes
A second bout with COVID-19 and an unseasonably warm spell in February led to me being in the Lake Geneva area the last couple days. I had plans to visit Ice Castles (https://icecastles.com) again earlier this year in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the unseasonably warm not long after my birthday in February and the venue was closed for my scheduled day and time. I had also contracted COVID-19 prior to my scheduled visit and I had just been just freed from quarantine restrictions. So while I was free to return to work and get out of the house, I still wasn't feeling one-hundred-percent recovered when the day of my scheduled trip to Wisconsin arrived.
The Vrbo accommodations were already paid for and I had no reason to go considering that Ice Castles would be closed and I would be better served resting and recovering at home after having returned to work post-COVID-19. Fortunately, the Vrbo host was happy to allow the reservation to be changed so that the money spent was not wasted. So I journeyed to Southern Wisconsin after I got back from making my deliveries Wednesday morning.
It was nice to get away for a couple days. And I really like the Lake Geneva area. While it is not an oceanside resort community, it is a lakeside resort community that reminds me of my time living on the coast in a North Carolina resort town. While I am still not a fan of Midwestern winter weather, I have even enjoyed my winter visits to the area.
The coastal decor of this particular house was really nice. It felt like home in a lot of ways and I was really happy with the accommodations and the effort that the host made to make the place feel like a home away from home. I spent a good bit of my stay just relaxing and enjoying the house and the yard. Having been to the area before a handful of times, I felt no pressure to get out and do something beyond relaxing.
I expect that I will return to the area in the not-too-distant future for another "weekend" in addition to my scheduled weeklong vacation trips elsewhere this year. If you haven't been to this part of Wisconsin and you have the time, I highly recommend a visit. 😎🏖️🛶🚤⛵️⛷️⛸️🛷
