A Short History of Labor Day in the United States

As the grandson of a coal miner, I laugh at the notion that I am somehow “privileged.” However, I admit to being blessed. I am blessed to be an American and that both myself and my father enjoyed the freedom to pursue opportunities that ensued that it was not a foregone conclusion that either of us would have to enter the mines to make a living. And I am thankful for the 19th century workers and organizers that pressed for better, safer working conditions for working men and women.
