Nicholas Moran of The Chieftain YouTube channel takes a look in a recent video at the tactical doctrine contained within the latest manual for United States Army tanks as it pertains to defense against enemy drones. From there he posted another video addressing criticism that he suggests is a demonstration of missing the point being made in that previous video. He also argues that tanks will continue to have a role in future military conflicts in spite of the insistence throughout moments in the history of the tank that such large, heavily armed and armored vehicles will become obsolete.

If you have been following the war in Ukraine, even casually, you are probably aware that both sides are using drones in waging war. Moreover, you might have seen videos of frantic foot soldiers being relentlessly pursued and killed by drones and of tanks and other armored vehicles being targeted and destroyed by drones.

Clearly, drones represent a battlefield threat that must be addressed. Addressing that threat is likely to be multifaceted. Undoubtedly, military aircraft and anti-aircraft artillery will play a role, as will electronic warfare troops and one’s own drone operators.

For a look at how the armored forces of the United States Army will likely respond to the threat and how such the threat posed by drones and other hi-tech weapons will not render tanks obsolete, click on the links below and watch the videos.
