Today’s Total Solar Eclipse (Some Humor and Some Safety Tips)

Good morning and happy eclipse day! If you plan on observing the event, I hope that you have your special glasses or lenses and clear skies. 😎

I was able to see a partial solar eclipse from my then relatively new home in rural Northern Illinois in 2017. While I did kick around the idea of traveling to a part of the country where I could possibly take in totality this time around, I ultimately decided to enjoy what I can see wherever I am tomorrow. While totality will be visible over Southern Illinois and parts of Ohio and Indiana, I don't know if the weather will cooperate in those locations. That is a large part of why I didn't saddle up and venture to Southern Illinois to see totality in 2017. Had I decided to travel for the event this year, I probably would have went all-in and went to Texas where there is generally a better chance of clear skies in April.

Predictably, some people have been making end of the world prognostications relating to the eclipse. Having survived Y2K with nothing worse than a bad hangover, I am not feeling particularly alarmed. Remember that none of us is guaranteed tomorrow and none of us are getting out of this life alive. Below is a link to a funny commercial from the folks at ESPN. If things go "tits-up" tomorrow, I plan to do my best Charlie Steiner impersonation. "FOLLOW ME! FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM!" 😂

In addition, if you still have your eclipse viewing glasses from the 2017 solar eclipse, you might still be able to use them if they are not damaged. Be sure to check out the information from NASA on safely observing the eclipse.
