To Boldly Go Where I Haven’t Gone Before

I ordered a copy of Star Trek Adventures: Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game as a gift for a loved one and I picked up a copy for myself. While I have been a somewhat casual, but enthusiastic fan of the franchise since I first watched episodes of the original series and the animated series as a child, I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a “Trekkie.” In addition to episodes of the original series and the animated series, I have watched many episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation and many of the feature films. But I could see my status as a not-quite-a-Trekkie changing if I spend time crafting stories set in the Star Trek universe as part of playing a solo roleplaying game and enjoying more Star Trek media. While I have enjoyed my journeys alongside the various crews of the various starships named Enterprise through the magic of television, movies, and even comic books, I haven’t been at the helm of my own starship or in command of my own outpost or space station. That is about to change, crewman.
Based on a work schedule that generally sees me working nights, weekends, and often holidays, solo roleplaying certainly has its appeal. Meeting up for a few hours with others on a regular basis to play a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) will likely be a challenge for as long as I drive a tractor-trailer for a living, although online platforms will certainly improve my opportunities to join or run a regular game. I have committed to playing Dragonbane: Mirth & Mayhem Roleplaying before the year is concluded. And Dragonbane has rules for solo roleplaying. But it isn’t specifically designed for solo play. Star Trek Adventures: Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game is. And I enjoy science fiction and the Star Trek franchise.
I am hoping that by the end of 2024, I will have a number of episodes written down that capture the story of adventures featuring one or more of my original characters in a Star Trek setting. If I decide to share these stories, perhaps you will become a fan of my own series, Star Trek: Fuck Around and Find Out (FAFO). 😂
You can pick up a copy of Star Trek Adventures: Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game for yourself through one of the Modiphius Entertainment online stores (US website link below) or at your local game store. Keep in mind that the book has four different covers (three currently in stock from Modiphius US) that pay tribute to four of the Star Trek television series, but there is no difference in the contents. So choose whatever cover you prefer and that is available.
It should be noted that you can also play Star Trek Adventures: Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game as a cooperative game with another player or even as a traditional TTRPG with one player serving as the game master. And if you want a less streamlined, more traditional TTRPG designed specifically for group play, you can pick up a copy of the second edition core rulebook for Star Trek Adventures: The Roleplaying Game when it is available.
