The Pirates Looking at a Future Without Their Captain

The Coral Reefer Band lost its bandleader, Jimmy Buffett, last year when he passed away and broke the hearts of Parrotheads around the world. And the members of the Coral Reefer Band clearly had their hearts broken too.

I am a longtime Jimmy Buffett fan. I happily attended three concerts in my life and listened to many more on Radio Margaritaville. That attendance record is undoubtedly dwarfed by the number of concerts attended by many of the Parrotheads that attended his shows for decades and for whom attending a Jimmy Buffett concert was a family tradition each summer.

The band committed to three shows in 2024 as a means of celebrating their former bandleader’s life and legacy, as well as “testing the waters” as The Coral Reefer Band instead of as Jimmy Buffett and The Coral Reefer Band. It would appear that the testing has been largely successful and well-received. I certainly hope that they ultimately decide to keep the party going and I certainly intend to go to see The Coral Reefer Band if they decide to do so.

Enjoy a look into the band navigating an uncertain, but hopeful future in this article (click link below) by Lawrence Specker.
