The Lion in Winter (1968)

The Lion in Winter. I absolutely love this movie. It is truly a masterpiece of cinema. I generally try to watch it around the Christmas season, although I didn’t get to watch it in its entirety last year.

There is not a bad performance among any of the actors and actresses. You have legends like Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn joining up and coming stars Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton. Nigel Terry, John Castle, and Jane Merrow also turn in masterful performances.

And the writing! The dialogue is razor-sharp. Those that enjoy political intrigue should find this movie appealing, as should those that enjoy witty banter, cutting wit, and well-delivered verbal insults and humor. And for all the plotting, scheming, and political machinations, the movie has heart. But I wouldn’t turn my back on these people if they were seated at your dinner tables. 😏
