I watched the clip ”tweeted” by “Spence, Todd” to his Twitter timeline and I felt compelled to share. I recommend that you watch it and share it as well. Someone that you know might need to hear this message. Or perhaps you need to hear it.
In the clip, Bill Murray talks about contemplating suicide and being pulled back from the abyss by a piece of art and the realization that tomorrow brings with it the promise of new possibilities and possible successes. I suspect that many of us have contemplated suicide. I know that I have.
I myself have considered taking my own life on a handful of occasions. As a teenager in junior high school, I wrestled with the idea. As a Christian and someone that believes in God, Satan, heaven, and hell, I was ultimately dissuaded by my uncertainty as to where my soul would spend eternity if I took my own life. During some other particularly dark times in my life, I have also considered suicide, although I didn’t find it to be as attractive an option as it was when I was younger. If I were to be completely honest, sometimes the idea will pop into my head without much precipitating drama and is routinely dismissed with very little thought beyond wondering from where the thought came.
I am truly blessed to have experienced so many wonderful things in my life. Many of these things took place after I first contemplated suicide. It is true that I have experienced my share of pain too. But I wouldn’t willingly give up the pleasant and positive experiences in my life to avoid the pain, even if I were given a chance to do so.
I too have bet on tomorrow being better than today when today was pretty awful. Sometimes the next day was as bad or worse, but eventually I could see the dawn of a better day on the horizon. If you are in despair, I implore you to bet on tomorrow as well.
