Some Roleplaying Games

Yesterday’s blog post got me thinking that I would share a few roleplaying game product lines that look interesting to me. So below, I have identified some roleplaying games for your consideration.


With that being said, it is nowhere close to being a comprehensive list of roleplaying games. Neither does it include every popular game such as Mutants & Masterminds, Traveller, Pathfinder, or Shadowrun. In truth, whether you are looking to play a roleplaying game for the first time or are looking to pick up playing after a hiatus, you will want to find some other likeminded individuals with which to play. So you may join an established group that regularly plays one or more particular games. Alternately your gaming group may need to figure out what everybody wants to play. So be flexible, keep an open mind, and recognize that there are undoubtedly some great roleplaying games not on my list.

Now without any further ado, here is my list. I have included some links for further information and for flavor. Enjoy!

5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons or D&D


The is the latest edition of the original fantasy roleplaying game and the most popular roleplaying game in history.


Alien: The Roleplaying Game


This roleplaying game set in the horror setting of a favorite film franchise looks like a great time. Great job too with the trailer! I wouldn’t get too emotionally attached to your player character (PC) though.

Infected!


Pandemic that turns people into zombies? Scared survivors suspiciously eyeing the stranger (or family member) that sneezes? Too far-fetched to reasonably suspend disbelief, right? Or too close to home after a depressing 2020? But it is zombies! And some people willing to do anything to survive!

Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game


Even more horror roleplaying? Yes! Delta Green!

Deception is a right. Truth is a privilege. Innocence is a luxury. Born of the U.S. government’s 1928 raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, the covert agency known as Delta Green opposes the forces of darkness with honor, but without glory. Cyberpink RED: The Roleplaying Game of the Dark Future


Maybe some dark, dystopian cyberpunk roleplaying would be fun, choomba?




The Expanse Roleplaying Game


I have read a number of the Expanse books and watched one episode of the Amazon Prime series. The roleplaying game looks interesting.

Top Secret: New World Order


I played the original Top Secret game back in the day. The new version looks interesting. Play a cinematic spy like James Bond or a more realistic hero working in the shadows.



Mouse Guard Roleplaying Game


Roleplaying with intelligent mice in a setting resembling medieval Europe? Why not? 🙂 🐁


The roleplaying game is set in the world crafted by David Peterson in his comic books and graphic novels. A movie had been planned, but those plans fell through. Hopefully someone picks this project up and runs with it. Check out the videos from the canceled film project!



Pilot a massive BattleMech across a distant battlefield, engage in intrigue in the court of a feudal lord, or lead a mercenary squad of BattleMech-hunting infantry? Yes!


There have been a number of roleplaying games set in the BattleTech setting. MechWarrior: Destiny is the newest. BattleTech: A Time of War: The BattleTech RPG preceded it and is considered to be a “crunchier" game system with more detailed rules.



Deluxe Revised RECON RPG


While the player characters (PCs) likely wouldn’t be having fun, perhaps a tour of duty with a recon team in a sweltering jungle hotspot would make for a few entertaining nights of gaming for the players.

Marvel Super Heroes Advanced Set / FASERIP


This is one of my favorite roleplaying games from my youth. While the Marvel Comics licensed game has been out of print for some time, copies and partial copies can sometimes be found on eBay.


A generic superhero rpg based upon the Marvel Super Heroes roleplaying game, FASERIP, has been published. It is named after the player character (PC) abilities that help define them.


F - Fighting

A - Agility

S - Strength

E - Endurance

R - Reason

I - Intuition

P - Psyche




GURPS


Want to create pretty much any fictional setting that the gamers want to explore? GURPS may be the answer.
