Opposites Can (and Often Do) Attract

A friend on X/Twitter referencing his marriage got me thinking about how “opposites attract” and my mind went to a couple songs that speak to that dynamic. It can admittedly be nice to be partnered with someone that is not a mirror image of ourselves. This person can coax and encourage us to step outside of our comfort zone (particularly if they are gentle, respectful, and supportive while respecting our right to say “No, not right now”). And they offer us something less akin to an echo chamber in how we see ourselves, others, and the world. Frankly, I have often admired and respected the differences between me and the women that I have dated and loved. I have admired their interests, their passions, and their strengths. The same is true when it comes to friends.
I remember how a woman that I was dating once told me that she wouldn’t insist on me fast social dancing if I wouldn’t insist upon her singing karaoke. That seemed fair. 💃 🎶 🎤😄
