Moth to a Flame 🔥

Yesterday I saw the tweet above from a guy humorously “confessing” to having a thing for White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. It was an acknowledgment that there was an attraction that transcended politics. It was an acknowledgment that our physical desires can transcend any number of legitimate concerns and fears.

I suspect that most men will, at least once in their lives, pursue a woman that they find attractive in spite of the clanging alarm bells going off in their heads. I have. If I am being entirely truthful, I have on more than one occasion.

It is a terrifying weakness, truth be told. Kind of like the thermal exhaust port on the Death Star. You can be a balanced, educated, experienced, intelligent, tough, reasonably well-adjusted individual, and still succumb to lapses in judgment when it comes to physical attraction. Wisdom can be elusive at times like this and “the heart wants what it wants."

I really can’t offer up anything particularly profound on this topic. Some people listen to that little voice in their heads and steer clear of potential danger. Others have to get burned. Some of us are seemingly incapable of getting the point short of multiple object lessons. Perhaps that is the definition of "hopeless romantic."

Ironically, I have found myself to be a moth to a flame when it comes to attractive redheads. I have dated two (and kissed/made out with a few others) and both relationships were complete unmitigated disasters. 😏
