I am really looking forward to getting my books and accessories for the new “Evolved” edition of ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game, as well as the new Rapture Protocol cinematic adventure for the game. I am admittedly a big fan of the Alien film franchise. ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game is an officially licensed product and the contents are in line with the franchise’s canon (https://www.apirateontheprairie.com/post/what-is-canon-in-the-nightmare-world-of-the-xenomorphppl). If you want to play in the world of the “Xenomorph” as portrayed in the Alien franchise, you arguably can’t do better than picking up the officially licensed game with all of its official lore and setting material. It shouldn’t be much longer until the new edition books, box sets/adventures, and accessories go out to the people that pledged to support the crowdfunding project (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/alien-rpg-second-edition-and-rapture-protocol) and then are made available to the general public via the publisher’s digital storefront (https://freeleaguepublishing.com/shop/alien-rpg-2/) and all those friendly neighborhood game stores.

With all that being said, perhaps you just want to tell a science fiction horror story like Doom, Event Horizon, Pitch Black, or The Thing and you are not interested in telling an “official” Alien story. Well I may have just the game for you. And as with ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game, this game is also critically acclaimed. I present to you, my fellow pirates, the Mothership Sci-Fi Horror RPG.

The Mothership Sci-Fi Horror RPG is published by Tuesday Knight Games (https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/pages/mothership-rpg). You can pick up a copy of the game via the publisher’s website. Below are additional links to some video reviews of the game, as well as a link to an online course from the publisher on how to create characters, how to play the game, and how to run the game as the Warden. There is even an app available to help you create characters and run your game (https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/pages/mothership-companion-app).

With Halloween right around the corner, either of these games promises to bring the Halloween chills and thrills to your gaming table. And the opportunity to enjoy horror fiction isn’t limited to just the month of October. With either (or both) of these games, you can collectively tell numerous science fiction horror stories that delight you and your family and/or friends all year long.
