Here There Be Dragons (and Orcs, Lizardfolk, Vampires, Werewolves, and More)!

On July 21, 2021, The Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum opened in scenic Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. As someone that grew up on the coast in a tourist destination, I really like Lake Geneva. And Lake Geneva is the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons or D&D, the most recognizable and most popular roleplaying game in history. Next time that I visit Lake Geneva, I hope to visit this new attraction.

Roleplaying games are now being seen as something other than recreation for socially awkward boys and men. We now know that a number of famous, creative, socially competent, and well-adjusted individuals have played D&D and other roleplaying games. You can see references to roleplaying games on television shows and watch people play online. As someone that played D&D and other roleplaying games as an adolescent, it is wild to see roleplaying games becoming more accepted and recognized in the culture.

It has been decades since I have played roleplaying games. They were a lot of fun. I enjoyed the creative aspect of the games and the opportunity to hang out with my brothers and/or friends and collectively tell a story. But again, it has been awhile since I have been a heroic adventurer seeking my fame and fortunate. Too busy with the daily grind, I suppose. However, of late, I have collected a handful of interesting roleplaying games, box sets, and gaming accessories. With any luck, I might actually play one or more in the not-too-distant future. 😉

Among the game books that I have collected of late, is the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons core rule books. I wonder if I can raise a band of intrepid adventurers to investigate the rumored settlement of lizardfolk believed to inhabit the swamps to the east that may have abducted a merchant’s two young children. Better make haste though before the lizardfolk throw a banquet in the children’s honor. 😏
