Scottish-born naval officer John Paul Jones is credited as being the “Father of the American Navy.” Arguably, if the average American knows anyone from the days of the Continental Navy of the American Revolutionary War and the fledgling United States Navy that sprang up after the cessation of hostilities with Great Britain, it would almost certainly be John Paul Jones. Jones’ American Revolutionary War victories against the British gave the new nation its first bona fide naval hero. He is often remembered for his perhaps apocryphal reply following a British demand to surrender USS Bonhomme Richard that, "I have not yet begun to fight!"
The Fat Electrician YouTube channel has done a video on this early American war hero that is certainly worthy of a few minutes of your time, particularly if you’re a history enthusiast with an interest in United States military history and naval history. The history of the Continental Navy and the United States Navy are certainly interesting. As a student with an interest in United States history and United States military history, I have done some reading and viewing pertaining to the subject. Moreover, my four years as a student in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NJROTC) afforded me additional opportunities to learn about the histories of the Continental Navy and the United States Navy. I still found the video to educational and entertaining. Enjoy.
