I have liked this song since I first heard it. But the first few lines in the song got me thinking one of the last times that I listened to it. After some time ago telling a friend that I had concluded that someone that I had briefly dated likely never really cared all that much about me, he pointed out that we used to spend a great deal of time together and that he didn't think that I was looking at it and drawing the correct conclusion.

Perhaps. I am not a big fan of revisionist history takes and perhaps this qualifies as such on a personal history level. From a rational level, it is difficult to maintain that I meant nothing to this woman considering that we did, indeed spend a good deal of time together. But I can't disregard how things ended between us. And perhaps more importantly, I can't shake the feeling that I feel deep down inside where it counts that I was, at best, a pleasant diversion for a time and nothing more to her.

Anyway, it isn't particularly important in the grand scheme of things. It would be nice to believe that this woman genuinely cared for me, if only for a short time. But it wasn't exactly a "long" relationship. It would be nice to believe that I had mattered to this woman, but she was pretty much just a blip in my dating history. I am familiar with the idea that you can love someone that doesn't love you back. I have long ago accepted that possibility or even the likelihood. Frankly, it stings the ego a bit, but it just doesn't matter.

Below is a link to the music video for this song that I have long enjoyed and a link to a scene from a movie from long ago that reflects the truth about some situations and outcomes. Enjoy! 😉
