Devil Dogs Versus Hard Cases

I knew that the United States Marine Corps had once stormed and seized the federal prison on Alcatraz Island after the inmates there had themselves seized the prison from the correctional officers. This event became known as the Battle of Alcatraz. Perhaps you knew this as well. Or perhaps your only recollection of United States Marines seizing Alcatraz is the result of you having seen the fictional account of rogue Marines seizing the former prison there in the 1996 film, The Rock, starring Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris. But if you have studied American military history or have spent any time in the company of United States Marines, you would probably reach the conclusion that going to war against the United States Marine Corps is likely to be a very bad decision and that someone else is likely going to be raising your children (if you have any) because you are going to end up dead.

I knew that the Battle of Alcatraz happened and I had seen some of the news footage that documented the incident, but I didn’t know the details… until now.
