A Real Kick in the Teeth

Learning that someone that you love doesn't love you or no longer loves you is a painful experience. Learning that that someone that you love doesn't have any feelings whatsoever for you and quite possibly holds you in contempt is a real kick in the teeth. You don't shake that off quickly or easily. That takes time.
