A Great Introductory Video for the Prospective Solo Gamer

I recently came across this great introductory video on solo roleplaying games from the How It’s Played YouTube channel and I thought that I should share it being that I have already shared a number of videos on tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) and solo roleplaying games on this blog. What I particularly liked about this video was the way that it broke down a variety of types of solo roleplaying game experiences available to the prospective solo gamer. From gamebooks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebook) which are essentially an evolved version of the popular Choose Your Own Adventure books (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choose_Your_Own_Adventure), to tactical skirmish wargames with built-in roleplaying elements that allow you to craft a narrative to accompany the action, to purpose-built solo roleplaying games that include their own oracles that help you to develop the situation or scene in which your character finds himself or herself, to the combining of generic oracles with traditional group TTRPGs like Dungeons & Dragons and Traveller, there is something for all tastes when it comes to solo roleplaying games. The video even gives a recommendation to check out the Geek Gamers YouTube channel which I have mentioned before when posting about solo roleplaying games.

Roleplaying games allow us to be active participants in adventures similar to those told around the campfire, on stage, over the radio waves, on the Internet, on television, in the movies, and in the comics and books. We can explore the cosmos or a small corner of our world, fight ferociously in battle, perform daring deeds that will be immortalized in song and poetry, solve mysteries, protect the weak and the helpless, stop the alien invasion, win the hand and the heart of the fair maiden or the charming prince, and generally step outside of the everyday and the mundane. If the idea of doing this as a solo participant sounds remotely interesting, I encourage you to watch the video (click the link below) and give it a try.
