A Firearm Well-Suited to the Defensive Role

In the wake of another mass shooting involving a so-called assault weapon, the predictable drumbeat picks back up and intensifies that insists that firearms like the AR-15 are only suitable for the battlefield or mass murder. To believe such a thing would require believing that the gun manufacturers are deliberately selling firearms with the hope of turning America’s streets, homes, schools, and other public places into battlefields and killing grounds and that the millions of Americans purchasing these firearms want such rampant, murderous violence to occur and, perhaps more disturbing, want to take an active part in perpetuating such murderous violence.

As I pointed out in a previous blog post, “The Little Black Gun, the Detractors, the Hatred, and the Lies” (https://gregorymaness.wixsite.com/website/post/the-little-black-gun-the-detractors-the-hatred-and-the-lies), the AR-15 is a very reasonable choice for someone looking to purchase a firearm for any number of legitimate, lawful purposes including defense of oneself, one’s loved ones, and one’s home. It turns out that the federal government recognizes this fact.

An article by blogger Steve McGough (click link below) points to this acknowledgment by the federal government that the AR-15 is an effective defensive weapon and lists a number of reasons why an American might buy and own an AR-15.

Again, I don’t particularly wish to get political on this blog, but it needs to be acknowledged that these firearms DO have legitimate civilian uses and that they have features that make them an entirely reasonable choice for the civilian looking to protect himself or herself, his or her loved ones, and his or her home.
